Liz Getman is a teacher (E-RYT, YACEP) and community builder who facilitates collective joy and transformation across the globe. A survivor of anorexia and depression, Liz has journeyed from years of abuse and mental dis-ease to a life of service and spiritual guidance. As a coach, yoga teacher, and retreat guide, Liz supports others in connecting within, to divine purpose, and across supposed divides. Her goal: to remind all people—no matter where we come from or what we look like—that we belong to each other, and it’s more fun to take this journey together.

Liz studied Hatha and Hridaya (spiritual heart) yoga with Arjuna Dharma Das and Arpita Kshama Devi at Mahadevi Ashram & Kaivalya Yoga School. While there, she developed Cacaoga, a practice that unifies sacred cacao with heart-centered asana and meditation. Liz first began offering yoga and wellness retreats in 2016 after recognizing the power of travel to awaken our innermost desires and remember our shared connection. Her continuing education includes trauma-informed training and healing-centered engagement in various modalities, including yoga and mindful movement. Her community building and personal transformation work has taken her around the world from Nigeria to Guatemala to her U.S. homes in New Jersey and Florida.

Liz serves as program director of YogaLoka, a nonprofit organization that provides yoga and meditation to traditionally underserved and marginalized populations. Though she teaches an invigorating vinyasa flow, her passion lies in sharing the transformational power of traditional Hatha and Bhakti yoga. Whether teaching retreats or offering individualized coaching sessions, Liz supports practitioners in balancing yin and yang energy to attain a more heightened state of psychological, spiritual, and professional equilibrium.

Liz is co-host of Beyond Asana, a podcast that features yoga teachers, changemakers, and spiritual leaders living yoga on and off the mat. She has a bachelor's degree in Spanish from Ithaca College and a master's degree in Latin American Studies with specializations in gender and development from the University of Florida. Find her thoughts on life and spirituality on Elephant Journal or join her for a guided meditation on Insight Timer.

Awaken to Purpose: Work with Liz

Awakening is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Some find purpose through service. Others self-realize through travel and adventure. Still others connect through stillness and spiritual practice. As a retreat guide, community builder, teacher, and trainer, Liz’s role is to help guide you along your path to liberation through “re-membering,” a process described by Rev. angel Kyodo williams as a recalling of our shared connection, an understanding that love is an act of justice, and none of us is truly free until we all are free.

Support along the process of discovery is paramount to our individual and collective wellbeing. Contact Liz for a one-on-one coaching or yoga session (in-person or online available), or explore upcoming retreats and events to discover how we can light up the world together.
